The gospel according to YouTube.

Found this (hilarious) video a while back on YouTube. Aparently it was made to show how some people perceive Jesus to be. I agree. Whenever I see street preachers over in the UK (I don’t know how true this is in America), I always get this kind of portrayal of Jesus: Judgmental, obsessed about getting to Heaven, mean, no fun allowed, very strict moral standards about debatable issues, obsessed about ’spiritual’ stuff rather than normal everday stuff… I could go on.
What do you think? Do people you know see Jesus like this, or see other Christians like this? Whos fault is that?

Ben,
I think it’s attributable to several things and is more than just any one item at fault.
1) Those that are not believers are darkened and spiritually blind. (Foolishness, Stumbling block, etc).
2) Romans 1 - they will reject and mock God and Jesus as an attempt to assert themselves sovereign over their own existence.
3)I think having a fallen understanding of sin, salvation, and freedom and liberty in Christ causes them to reject moral instruction provided within the context of faith, provided to a new covenant believer intending to produce holiness in the life of a believer
4) I do think if Christians were more Christ like there might be less mis-characterization of Jesus. There would be many who’d still reject Him, but they’d at least reject a more accurate representation of Jesus. I personally think the ultra-fundie (sorry if I offend some) do not help in this area especially, but my comment is for all believers.
5) I think they know it gets our goat and like to stir us up. ;^)
Thoughts?

Steve,
I agree it’s not any one persons/groups fault, we are all supposed to represent Christ and give an accurate presentation of Him to non-Christians. But I can’t help thinking of Christians (although a very very small number) who act like this. Of course we should stand up for morality and not be afraid to show people a better way of life… but do we need to say it like this?
I do think though that if people were to come to face-to-face with the real Jesus some would still reject and mock Him.
Just to put a fly in the ointment, this was made by Christians to show how extreme-fundamentalism is wrong… which is probably the offensive bit!

No, no we don’t. I agree wholeheartedly.
