Nokia 1611, The Only Truly Reliable Phone

This is halarious. I emailed Dan Wallace about this and this is how he responeded:

“One of the things I like about the 1611 Nokia is that it’s at least 10% bigger than any other cell phones that are out there. The others drop keys inexplicably, for example, or add some keys that demonstrate that some sort of conspiracy is afoot. For example, when you hit u for a text message, it’s always with an umlaut (ü), and w becomes a v. I think this has something to do with liberal phone practices in Germany, but I don’t know the connection. Further, most people don’t know that Nokia is not in it for the money, while everyone else is. In fact, Nokia has said that if anyone wants to build a phone identically to the 1611, that’s fine. What other phone company is that generous? Anyway, it’s the 1611 all the way for me. The only real question I have is about which version of the 1611 came out first. There’s been some confusion over this issue. One phone is hot pink while the other is steel gray. The first is called “the ’she’ phone” while the other is called “the ‘he’ phone.” And the real problem is that some of the phones are two-toned–hot pink AND steel gray. One wonders what happened, but I’m sure that all three phones will be worth a small fortune some day. So, collect all you can, folks!”

And . . .

“I also understand that if you key in the names of any of the other phones and send it as an audio text message to your computer, you can convert it to the reverse order and download it to your iPod. And when you do, the sound is eery: “I am the Antichrist!” Works every time.”

An excellent piece. Makes one wonder how communication was even possible before the Nokia 1611. And, with the impending obsolescence of the analog technology, we may never be able to communicate properly ever again! Maybe someone will come out with an even bigger Nokia 1611 with built-in converter so that people that rely on the more modern means of communication in a digital age can still use their trusted Nokia 1611.
