Ghost Stories: What do you do with them?

Okay, I admit it . . . I love ghost stories. They fascinate me. I watch Ghost Hunters often. I like them because they seem to be pretty objective with the facts, attempting to debunk the “phenomenon” before calling it a story with merit.
Let me cut to the chase. I think that a lot of this stuff is legitimate. I really do. Call me crazy, call me superstitious, call me whatever. But, for me, it is hard to deny so many stories. Yet I don’t believe that these apparitions and voices are those who have died and are seeking to communicate, but demons seeking to screw up a Christian worldview.
You see, the Christian worldview has very little room for ghosts who haunt the earth. It would seem that the Scriptures plainly teach that once you die, you go to your place, with God or to await judgment. To admit a ghost as the spirit of a dead person here on earth confuses the teachings of Scripture at best and violates a Christian worldview at worst.
As my wife and I were watching Ghost Hunters, she asked me why I think that a demon would do such a thing. She said that she would be more scared of a demon than a ghost. I said that I would be much more scared of a ghost because it would tamper with my worldview. A demon would confirm my worldview.
Anyway . . . a little bit of fun. What do you do with ghosts? Deny them. Redefine them. Allow them as part of a Christian worldview? I am curious.

I agree - demons.
What do you do with ghosts? Hmmmm…

If Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light - assuming that aggelos in 2 Co 11.14 means a spirit being and not a human messenger of a false gospel (which actually fits the context better, IMHO) - then I do not see why demons could not appear as spirit beings, too. It is an interesting question, however.

A related question - I see explicit scriptural info that a believer is with the Lord until he gets a ressurection body (absent from the body, present with the Lord).
What’s the current thinking about non-believers? I dont see anything _explicit_ about them in my looking around, so just curious? The only theory I had is back from some old J. Vernon commentaries indicating that unbelievers still conciously wait in a place (abraham’s bosom, sheol, hades) until judgement. Is that still the prevailing thinking and if so is there any more of an argument to it than just saying “we want to be symmetrical - the believers go somewhere, so the non believers must too”?
As for ghosts, I dont know… I’d guess (and that’s a stretch even) to say that they are either figments of our imaginations or demons.
I just know I dont like them. ;^)

Well, Jesus himself mentions ghosts when he resurrected and the disciples were first afraid when they saw him. He said that he was not a ghost, that he had a body and could be touched. So, by that comment, it appears that Jesus is saying there are such things as ghosts and that they don’t have a physical body and that they are frightening to people. What they actually are and why they exist, he doesn’t tell us though. And it does seem that that are too many happenings of a ghostly nature to be able to say that all those people just were imagining things. I don’t know what ghosts are. I read that they seem to exist more in an area where there was a traumatic happening. I don’t know if that is true.

I am not sure if ghosts exist.Some people say there is nothing like a ghost.they are just imaginations of a week mind.I feel it is the same with god too.I am not sur it god exists.
i think ghost exist but a lot of people think they can just fool with the pictures to make it look real so what ever
i think ghost exist to an extent like no one can say that they haven’t walked into a room and the hair on the back of their necks didn’t stand up but people who think they can just fool with a picture to make it look like a ghost is in that specific location is pulling people’s leg’s i keep an open mind about all supernatural things whether or not they are real or not because you just don’t know what is out there just remember scientist are still uncovering new things every day it wont be long until they come face to face with something thats never been discovered there are a lot of things to think about like if you believe in big foot or the lochness monster how do you know it really exists so all i say is keep an open mind don’t judge a book by it’s cover judge a book by what’s written inside.

I would like to know as much as possible about ghosts they are amazing. I’m greatly amazed how they are able to come to earth some how and give certain people info they can be very helpful to some people. Ghosts can be very good to others they are just great to have around.
I have seen and been visited by dead loved ones.
I have been in places where there is a ” feeling” and I have always held to the belief that when something happens is; sudden death, deep sorrow or even moments of real happiness this can alter the location for ever.
Death is a transition from this eartly plane to the next, yet for some, their last moments or even mundane movements are kept like a film to be played over and over, some how ever inner act with us making noise and speaking. While others are satisfifed to appear watch and continue on . The bible says we are watched by a great cloud of witnesses.
Maybe this is who they are…
I watch Ghost Hunters every WED. and i never miss it. According to my expirences and knowledge gained from watching Ghost Hunters it is either a reflection, or some type of heating problem. But those are possiblities and really I’m not seeing anything at all involved with the woman in that particular picture.
Actually this notion that there are no ghosts and that they are all actually demons is a very close minded protestant view. This derived from the early time of the reformers during 1634 of the Loudon Nuns and the Axen Province Nun possessions it was an opportunity for the reformers under Martian Luther to provide truth and validity to the protestant church’s ability to deal with demonic forces without the support of a centralized authority such as the Pope. The family of one of the nuns was growing impatient of the Catholic Church’s ability to drive out the demon from their daughter. They brought her to a protestant church for deliverance prayers from a preacher who used only the bible and scriptural prayers. After over six months of this the demon only spit cursed and laughed at the preacher. They never made any headway with the possession. Finally the Catholic Church frantically trying to figure out why the Exorcism prayers of Fr. Urbain Grandier were not working launched a full scale investigation into his parish and convent. They discovered that he had been seducing and sleeping with all of the nuns! As any exorcist or demonologist will tell you, an exorcist must be free of guilt, and atoned of all sin. This is done by Black Fast and preparation for the actual rite. Fr. Grandier was removed from office, excommunicated from the priesthood, and if I remember correctly executed for witchcraft during the last inquisition. A Bishop was charged with conducting the next series of exorcisms. The Nun was brought back to the convent and exorcised for three weeks, finally in what an exorcist calls “the breaking” the demon cried out why it had come to dwell in the nun and it was a demon of Lust. With a loud cry the demon fled from the nun and she was freed no thanks to the followers of Martian Luther who wasted her time with protestant deliverance prayers. I recommend a book to all who ask these questions called Angels and Demons by Peter Kreeft. It explains the difference between them from both a realistic and theological standpoint. Don’t read such blasphemous garbage such as anything by Dan Brown, who’s soul I constantly pray for. Please visit my website and ask any questions you wish. Also to rebuke the protestant belief that only demons are earthbound and that Ghosts are demons, is total BS. If that is the case, then Jesus was a demon when he returned from the dead to visit his apostles. Think about that! Doesn’t make sense and provides validity to the Catholic and Orthodox beliefs in Purgatory.
no no no no no….”destroys a christian world view!” what?! no it doesnt. what ever happend to purgatory when you die no one said you had to go up or down, catholic teaching states that you can go to purgatory or limbo. a place between heaven and hell. also if you belive in a “CHRISTIAN WORLD VIEW” then you belive in an immortal soul and you must belive that when you die your soul is sepperated from your body, well if it goes to purgatroy whos to say it doesnt go anywhere, whos to say being stuck on earth as a “ghost” isnt purgatory. also ghosts are rarly evil or even mean, a demon is in a home or worse yet a person to try and destroy them or the family, and they are intelligent where as most reports of ghost say that its like a video on a loop, they do the same thing over and over without noticing you. if you watch ghost hunters you should pay a little more attention what i just described is called a residual haunting, the imprint of past events on a place. an intelligent haunting now that could be confused with a demon, an intelligent haunting being the actual spirit of someone who cant move on and is aware of other people around it.

i think ghost do exsist.. and yeah i agree some people think they can fool us by messing with pictures and editing it to make it look like an orb,ufo,demon,or even ghost.. im a christian but i think if a spirit has not passed on it must have some unfinished buisness to take care of.. well i spoke my mind now you speak yours..
ok i’ve been watching this show for two mounths and i have just gottin in to it and well and i was wondering how come you guess havent went to kansas or missouri you guys stay around the coust or out the states i’mnot trying to sound like a jerk cuase i’d like to know
yes i agree also well i think its more of a ghost then a demond.i say we should leave demonds and spirits aloune unless we find out who the ghost is and you know the ghost then you can talk to it with a weje board.i also think that we should respect spirits.(even if i am a little afaid of what they can do)
even though i am young, i am still siding about my belifs. i’ve been watching all kinds of ghost shows especially “A Haunting”.A few years ago i was asleep in my bed when i heard a noise whitch seemed to be coming from the bathroom, whitch was right next to my room. It sounded like someone taking a cadnit door and holding it open then leting go of it. it made this sound about 7 times then stoped. I was a little freaked out, of course being 10 years at that time and started watching ghost stories i just started makin excuses to what was making that noise. So it happened the next 3 days i stayed at my dads house. 6 years later i still havent told anyone but the noise went away. i still dont know what made the noise
I believe in ghosts; call me nuts or whatever, but I see them and they see me as well. They even communicate with me, but I just ignore them.
I have to agree with the ghosts are demons view. I myself am a born again christian, and have been almost my entire life. Yes, demons can appear, and in any form that they like, they can also possess people. It is how they get us to trust them, seeming harmless.
As for a place we go after we die if it’s not heaven, well, there is. There is a waiting area, it’s called Hades. Hades isn’t hell, it’s where the waiting souls go and await for judgement. Some call it purgatory, it’s the same thing though, same place. From there they will be summoned for judgement on judgement day and placed in their final place for eternity.
I don’t believe that Hades is in this realm, and that people can come and go from it. But it is stated that demons and satan can wander the world.
For those who asked can we see demons… well, some can see angels, so why not demons? They are of the same plain, just different places within it. They are visible when they want to be.
you are misunderstanding the fact that yes in christian belefs everyone does go to heaven but also if you look in the bible there is meantion of ghosts so you cannot say they do not exist because if you are saying that then you are saying that something in the bible was incorrect and by christian believers that is set in stone to be 1000% true… a couple of verses that talk about ghosts,spirits,apparetions what ever you want to call them … Matthew 14:26, Mark9:4, these are just a few i could list more but i would be here all day… spirits are real things and untill you experiece and actually speak with them you can not say that they are not!!! They will not change your christian world view and if they do then you have not read and understood deeply enough into the bible to understand them!!! although i am not a christian now i was for many years and i have read the bible through too many times to count and i know that ghosts are a real thing and they are in the bible!!!!

I have seena ghost before no doubt. I was wating tv about a girl seeing and feeling and hearing a girl named emily, she was three months pregnant with a baby boy at the age of fifteen!!!!!When i went to bed i heard screams saying “dont hurt me or my son please please!!!!!!”

Honestly, the idea of ghosts scares me to no end. I can admit that anything unknown makes me uncomfortable. In which case I try very hard not to think about anything supernatural. I avoid all ghost tv shows, I refuse to watch scary movies, I won’t even talk or think of supernatural things until lately. Throughout my entire night I have been experiencing supernatural phenomena, and that disproves the theory above mentioned that thinking about ghosts will make your imagination procure one. One night on a mission trip I was trying to sleep in a hundred year old monestary turned into a hotel, and I entered the bathroom one time and refused to go back in. I can’t describe to you the feeling in that bathroom, but after I refused to go in and everyone else went to sleep I heard a voice begging me to go in the bathroom and open the door, it kept begging me to listen to it. Needless to say I spent the night in prayer. I am sure that this experience was a demonic one, as we were warned before the trip to be aware of spiritual warfare. It seems like all of my experiences have been demonic seeing as the
“thing” involved was intelligent and malicious. When I was younger my bed would shake at night from side to side violently, things in my room would move, and once out of sheer annoyance at feeling watched i turned around and looked directly into the corner worst for the disturbances and said “if you are here stop messing with me” and my lights flickered. One early morning I walked through the hallway past my livingroom and in the dark room was the outline of a tall thin person. The outline though was like the blobs you see in your head when you stare at a light for a few minutes and shut it off. like an enormous, person-shaped light blob, my boss who studies all things paranormal and is in love with Sylvia Brown told me I see “death lights”. Whatever these occurences were, I am convinced that both demons and ghosts may exist though I avoid thinking about it.
