Adventists Want to be Evangelicals: Update on the discussions

Seventh day Adventists want to be Evangelicals.
Difference in mainstream Evangelicals and Adventists:
- Observe sabbath on Saturday
- Soul sleep (no intermediate state of existence; when a Christian dies, he or she is unconscious until the resurrection)
- The rather odd doctrine of Investigative Judgment.
While often on the legalistic side, they normally hold to the primary essentials of the Christian faith (Trinity, Salvation by faith alone, inspiration of Scripture).

Just curious: what’s stopping them from simply calling themselves Evangelicals? Is there a committee somewhere that would have to certify them?
Well, I imagine it has to do with recognition. They not only want to call themselves evangelicals, but they want a representative evangelical organization to recognize them.
Unless they have a particular “representative evangelical organization” in mind, you wonder how they’ll know when they’ve finally made it in.
Given that the popular press often refers to Mormons as Evangelicals, maybe Adventists will come to the conclusion that association with the term wasn’t worth the effort.
Ha! I just noticed that I did not even put the link to the article. This will help you understand. See the edited post.
The article seems to indicate that one theological distinction between Adventists and Evangelicals is that Evangelicals believe that souls go directly to heaven or hell upon death. We do?
And what about the Sabbath? Does anyone argue that the Sabbath has always been Saturday? I thought that’s what the word means.
Evangelicals don’t tend to have services on the Sabbath, though I know of some churches that have services on Saturday evenings because of crowding. But most have services on Sunday to celebrate the resurrection.
Maybe this has just been a big misunderstanding all along.
