To add to our ongoing conversation about why people leave the church, another article reviews this phenomenon:
Here is how it breaks down. Why do kids leave the church after high school?
• Wanted a break from church: 27%
• Found church members judgmental or hypocritical: 26%
• Moved to college: 25%
• Tied up with work: 23%
• Moved too far away from home church: 22%
• Too busy: 22%
• Felt disconnected to people at church: 20%
• Disagreed with church’s stance on political/social issues: 18%
• Spent more time with friends outside church: 17%
• Only went before to please others: 17%
See the rest here. (And don’t ask me how all of these ad up to 100)

Apparently, the interviewees were allowed to choose more than one answer. “I’ll take that one and that one and… oh yeah, that one too.”
This raises another interesting question about the Biblical qualifications for leaders. Paul specifies that leaders must have believing children. If my kid leaves the faith, should that disqualify me from leadership?
You know, I read that last night in Titus. I would imagine this is the case. But I really think it has to do with children who are under the house. In other words, you are not responsible for their beliefs after they leave home. Otherwise David was in big trouble with Solomon.
Does Paul say the kids have to act like they believe (behave nicely, perhaps). Or does he say they must actually believe? If the latter, then they wouldn’t fall away, would they?
As far as New Covenant qualifications for leaders goes, David had a number of problems. Multiple wives, adultery and murder among them.

Why does the revival tarry? It is because God’s
people tarry to obey the powerful command of
the Lord in Rev. 18:4. This is the most powerful
revival message of the Lord to his people in our time.

As in the days of Lot, it is now. Lot was not interested
to leave Sodom. God sent two angels to rescue him.
One of the angels said to him: “Flee for your life sake …”
Just like as Lot, God’s people are not interested to leave
the great Babylon, but finally they must flee for
their life from there.
