Dispensationalism Charts: Chartaphobia or Chartamania?

I found this website tonight and it got me thinking about all the dispensationalism charts that I have seen over the years.

I have to admit, I am a visual person and I really like charts in general. But for the last few years I have had a phobia toward charts dealing with eschatology and dispensationalism. Maybe its because the charts lack the necessary element of uncertainty about the issues surrounding eschatology or maybe its because the Left Behind series has left me with a bad taste in my mouth toward issues of eschatology in general. While I remain a committed premillennialist, I do understand that these things are not as clear as the could be. Anyway, lets face it, if you can actually chart it, it must be certain . . . or something like that.

What do you say? Do you have dispensational chartaphobia or chartamania?

    Chartaphobia.

    Though I still would consider my views to be somewhat dispensational and premillennial I’ve seen them become less dogmatically dispensational and less certain about all the specifics that the charts bring forth.

    I’ve also been burnt by some of the charts, and issues relating to them (see my post below about Heaven - I know it’s long but I’d still love to see if you think I’m off the deep end Michael). ;^)

    It seems that folks who really push the charts are really trying to promote their view and even the whole topic or prophecy or whatever it may be beyond that which is appropriate and making it a core belief. I’m reminded of Hebrews 6 where it says that we need to remember what we have learned about it and move past it to maturity. Yes, it’s a basic lesson to learn, but it isn’t the most essential/crucial/important. The charts seem to make it the focus.

    And I’m probably a bit postmodernish in the fact that I’m becoming a bit more skeptical in general. I tend to think “what are they selling? what’s their angle? why is this so crucial?”

    Chartamaniac without a doubt!!

    Even if they say the world ended in 1984, I am just a sucker for a well made chart 8)
